Size

6cm x 27m
7cm x 27cm
10cm x 27m

Usage

1. To protect skin from the hard, abrasive, and exothermic(heat-generating) materials of the cast for orthopedic treatment.
2. Sport protection: To protect the skin from the adhesive and the chafing of rigid athletic tape. It allows for secure taping of ankles, wrists, etc., without causing significant skin irritation or painful hair removal when the tape is taken off.
3. Protecting fragile skin for elderly patients or those with conditions that make their skin thin, delicate, and prone to tearing.
4. To pad bony prominences (ankles, wrists, elbows) before applying a more rigid bandage or splint. This helps distribute pressure more evenly and prevents pressure sores.

Instructions for use

1.Prepare the Area:
Ensure the skin is clean, dry, and free of oils or lotions.
If there is a wound, apply an appropriate sterile non-stick dressing first. The underwrap will go over this primary dressing.
For casting, a stockinette is often applied first directly on the skin, and the underwrap is applied over it.

2.Start the Wrap:
Hold the roll of underwrap in your dominant hand.
Place the start of the roll at the point farthest from the body's core (distal point). For a leg, start just above the ankle or wrist; for a limb, you may start distal and move proximal.
Leave a small tab (about 2 inches/5 cm) unrolled at the beginning. You will secure this later.
3.Wrap the Bandage:
Use a light tension. The underwrap should be snug but not tight. It provides no compression.
Make each turn around the limb, overlapping the previous layer by about 50%. This ensures complete coverage without gaps.
Keep the roll flat against the skin for a smooth application. Avoid wrinkles, as they can create pressure points under the rigid outer layer.
Continue wrapping in a spiral pattern up the limb, covering the entire area that the outer bandage will cover.

4.Finish the Wrap:
When you reach the top of the area to be covered, tear or cut the underwrap.
Secure the end: The beauty of most underwrap is that it is lightly self-adhesive. Simply press the end firmly against the layer below. You can also use a small piece of tape if necessary, but this is rarely needed.

Precautions

DO NOT use it as a primary wound contact layer.
DO NOT use it to apply pressure or compression.
DO NOT leave it on without an outer bandage, as it will unravel and offer no benefit.
DO NOT get it wet before applying the outer layer, as it will lose its integrity.
